Finding the right window treatment for your window can be frustrating if you don’t know which window treatment will fit best. Especially when you have a difficult shaped window such as bay windows, tall windows, windows with arches, dormer windows or really small windows. At ABC Blind & Drapery, it is our mission to help every customer find the perfect window treatment for their home, so we decided to put together a guide to window treatments for difficult windows to help give you some ideas.
bay windows
While bay windows are becoming increasingly popular with homeowners, finding a window treatment that compliments them has proven to be tricky. One of the simpler options is to buy a straight rod that goes across the outside of the curve of the window and add curtains or draperies. If you don’t want to cover up the curve of the window, we would recommend getting an angled or curved rod that can follow along each window. Then, you can get curtains that frame each window so as not to take away from the beauty of the window.
tall windows
Tall windows make a room feel larger and brighter, but what about all the heat they let in during the hottest hours of the day? If you are looking for an easy to use window treatment, then roller shades or solar shades are a great choice for you. You can get your shades motorized making it easy to roll them back up to the top and maximize your window space when you want. If you want to add a decorative touch, consider layering your window treatments by adding draperies that pair nicely with your shades.
arched windows
Sometimes, it’s easier to just leave the arched windows alone and show off that beautiful arch. If you want to show off the arch but still be able to manage some of the light allowed in, a good choice would be to install the window treatment below the arched part of the window. This will help you control some of the light, but not take away from the arch. If you want something with full coverage, consider getting draperies that tie back, perfectly framing the arch.
dormer windows
These windows can seem out of place or bare without a window treatment. Our favorite treatment to put on a dormer window is Roman shades. They are easy to use, come in many fabrics and patterns, and can quickly bring that window to life and help tie it to the rest of the room.
small windows
While it’s nice to stare out that small window in your kitchen, matching a window treatment to it can seem difficult. If you don’t mind letting the light in, a valance can add character to your window and valances come in many styles and patterns. If you want full coverage of your window, we offer mini blinds that can be custom-made to your size window and will add a sleek and clean finish to the room.
We hope that after reading this, you are ready to tackle that difficult window in your home! If you’d like to discuss the many window treatment options we have available, please contact us.
