At ABC Blind & Drapery, we look forward to fall. And that’s not just because we escape the Austin heat! We enjoy seeing new window fashions emerge for the season and let’s face it, once October arrives, it seems like Christmas is right around the corner. Fall may not last long in the Hill Country, but it still has its own style.

When most of us think about fall in Texas, we envision chilly days and cozy nights punctuated by orange, red and yellow foliage with pumpkins and native rustic elements, as well as breathtaking sunsets every evening. When it comes to design trends for Fall 2015, this crisp vibe transitions into home design elements, including window fashions, in a variety of ways.
Pantone Color Trends
Pantone, the market leader in color systems, announces its color trends every year. In 2015, Pantone released emerging colors for the year and we’ve seen these colors filter into everything, from corporate logos and marketing materials to home décor accessories and paint. Many of these trending colors are perfect for the fall season, whether it’s throw pillows, rugs or window fashions.
Check out these Pantone colors for fall inspiration: Champagne Beige (14-1012), Deep Mahogany (19-1420), Steel Gray (18-4005), Frosted Almond (13-1012, Red Dalia (19-1555) and Pale Gold (15-0927).
Playing with Textures
A trend we’ve seen all year that is now transitioning into fall is the use of textures. This home trend is easy to incorporate into your home thanks to versatile window coverings like our Natural Woven Shades, Roman Shades and Roller Shades. All of these products come in a variety of colors and fabrics, so our customers can do interesting and unique things to play with textures.
If you have soft drapes, you can add a touch of fall with decorative accessories like tassels and curtain tie-backs, which have re-emerged as a popular trend in 2015. Tassels can be found in a variety of materials from twisted strands of rope to traditional chenille fabric, as well as perfect fall colors like gold, taupe and red.
The Power of Lighting
Lighting is always a trend when it comes to home décor and design. We know how much our window coverings can add drama to any room by giving it a gentle amount of light or you can let the natural light fill your home. In Austin, our Plantation Shutters, wood blinds and shades give customers the ability to adjust lighting throughout the day.
In addition to natural light, we love the lighting trend of refurbished antique and up-cycled light fixtures or new ones created with an industrial look and feel. The power of a unique pendant light fixture can completely change the look of a room!
We’re also continuing to see the trend of mixing decorative crystal elements with dark iron and industrial-looking accents. Lamps continue to reflect and enhance these trends. For fall, you can change out fabric shades with warmer colors and rustic textures, especially if you have neutral furniture. You can also play with the lighting itself by switching out your light bulbs for your ambient and accent lighting. Incandescent and Compact Florescent Bulbs (CFLs) are typically available in warmer temperatures that emit cozy lighting.
Enticing the Senses
One of the trends we’ve seen for Fall that is easy to incorporate into your home is changing the “experience” to invoke a sense of Fall. And scent is a powerful one. When it comes to Fall, scented candles can quickly invoke a feeling of sitting in your childhood kitchen, waiting for a slice of your grandmother’s homemade pumpkin pie after Thanksgiving dinner. The scent options are endless with candles like Pumpkin Waffle, Pumpkin Spice, Autumn Leaves, Vanilla Bourbon and Cranberry Twist.
Trends in Tablescapes
If you’ve been on Pinterest, Houzz or Instagram lately, you know the trend in decorating dining tables for holiday gatherings has become an art form. Homeowners have mastered the technique of bringing the outdoors inside, which continues to emerge as a fall trend.
In Austin, we don’t have access to pine cones, but we do have incredible pieces of driftwood, beautiful magnolia tree blooms and brightly colored berried trees. All of these items can be brought indoors and arranged to create a centerpiece and individual place settings. This is part of the trend in up-cycling, which we enjoy. Why not use the resources you have in your own backyard? These native plants and foliage also add just the right amount of texture and interest that your guests will appreciate.
As always, at ABC Blind & Drapery, we’re happy to help you find window coverings that inspire you. Just give a call!
