Summer is moving quickly, but all that means is that we should take full advantage of all of the wonderful Austin summer traditions there still are to do! Below we’ve gathered some of our favorite must-do Austin events this summer before it’s officially over. Enjoy!

blues on the green

This classic Austin summer event is coming to an end with only two concerts left this summer! So grab a blanket and some snacks, and head on over to Zilker Park with family and friends to enjoy Austin’s largest free concert series, Blues on the Green. Listen to Ben Kweller and Como Las Movies on Wednesday, July 17th or catch the last summer show on Wednesday, August 7th!

zilker summer musical

This free, annual musical is a must-do family event in Austin in the summer! Head on over to the Zilker Hillside Theatre to enjoy a performance of “The Little Mermaid” featuring some classic Disney songs on Thursdays-Sundays around 8:15 PM thanks to the Zilker Summer Musical. We recommend going early to grab a good spot!

sound & cinema

What’s better than watching a great movie with friends? Doing it on the lawn of the Long Center all summer! Alamo Drafthouse and Do512 have joined together to bring Austin live music and classic movies as part of the Long Center’s “All Summer Long Series” – Sound & Cinema. On July 31st, there’s a showing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and on August 14th they’ll be playing 10 Things I Hate About You. Don’t forget to add these classics to your calendar!

bat fest

Head on down to the Congress Avenue Bridge on August 24th for one of Austin’s most interesting attractions – the Bat Fest! The world’s largest urban bat colony takes up residence under our very own Congress bridge, putting on a show with their nightly flight. Not only can you see tons of Mexican-Free tailed bats, but you’ll also enjoy live music, activities for kids and much more!

unplugged at the grove

One of our very favorite Austin events at ABC Blind & Drapery – KGSR’s “Unplugged at the Grove” is an Austin music lovers dream. Free music at The Shady Grove every Thursday night throughout the rest of summer and into September!

lake travis waterloo adventures

What better way to spend a hot summer Texas day than at a water park? Lake Travis Waterloo Adventures brings us a new and exciting adventure offering Austinites “The Ultimate Lake Experience.” This floating water park includes a scenic boat ride to and from Adventure Island, an extensive obstacle course, and a private resort-style lake getaway. You can find more information on their website – enjoy the adventure!

georgetown presents music in the square

If you live in the North Austin, Round Rock, or Georgetown area then this event is right in your backyard! If not, then you may way want to check it out anyways – Georgetown’s Historic Square is putting on live music featuring family-friendly shows on Friday nights, all the way through August. You can bring blankets, folding chairs, and snacks (just no glass permitted), or if you want to have a night out on the square there are tons of charming downtown restaurants to check out!

We hope you have a wonderful time at these fantastic Austin events this summer and don’t forget to soak it all up before summer is officially over!
