Halloween in Austin: Are You Trick-Or-Treat Ready?
It’s hard to believe Halloween is already here! Especially in this hot & sunny Austin weather. Trick-or-treaters will soon arrive at your door in cute, funny and spooky costumes and voila! – all of those bags of candy will quickly disappear.
There are a few easy halloween safety tips that will make your home more safe and more inviting for your little ghosts and goblins. Plus, there are local events and quite a few must-see Austin neighborhoods that offer Halloween thrills & chills for kids of all ages.
Clear the Path
If you have inflatables or electric decorations in your yard, do a quick walk-thru prior to Halloween night to make sure any extensions cords or electrical boxes will not be hazardous in the dark.
Sometimes the transformation from day-to-night creates dark spots in your yard that can be hard to maneuver, especially if trick-or-treaters aren’t walking up to your home on the sidewalk. In their excitement, they tend to run though yards from house-to-house, so be on the lookout for sticks and branches too.
Light It Up
As dusk sets in, turn on your outside lights to make sure trick-or-treaters can safely walk up to your front door. Open your shutters or blinds, so your home looks approachable and welcoming. If you have indoor lighted decorations like pumpkins, ghosts or BOO signs, place that décor in the windows, so trick-or-treaters can see the illuminated fun inside your home as they approach.
On the flip side, if you won’t be home Halloween night, turn off the lights and close your shutters or blinds. Trick-or-treaters know that a dark house means they should move on to the next home.

The Domain in North Austin hosts a beautiful, family-friendly celebration, Halloween Party On The Plaza, on Oct. 30. The Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave is hosting their annual Halloween Event with shopping, face-painting, live music and plenty of costumes and candy on Oct 31.
Spooktacular Neighborhoods
When it comes to holiday pizazz, Austinites love to show off their festive personalities. Two of the most popular neighborhoods for trick-or-treating include the Allandale and Crestview neighborhoods located west of Lamar between Anderson and 2222. Tarrytown, one of Austin’s gems, boasts lots of yard décor that makes Halloween a memorable and fun night for everyone.
