Fall is here, which means it’s cooling down and we’re all starting to consider leaving our houses again now that the blazing summer is coming to an end. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite Fall events in Austin, in case you want to enjoy the nice weather like us!
get in the spirit at a ut football game
In Texas, Fall means football. And there’s no better way to celebrate being an Austinite than attending a UT Football Game and trying to catch a glimpse of Matthew McConaughey on the big screen! The UT football team has games from September all the way through November, so buy some tickets and enjoy a game with friends or family!
visit a local farm
Head on over to a local farm for some old-fashioned harvest fun, such as working your way through the corn maze at Bastrop’s Barton Hill Farms, picking pumpkins at Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls or enjoying a hayride at Sweet Eats Fruit Farm in Georgetown. No matter which farm you choose, you’re sure to have the perfect fall experience!
get spooked at house of torment
Famed for its over the top production value and creativity, House of Torment is one of the best haunted houses in the US! This haunted house will leave you spooked and ready for more – or, you might be running home to your mama. Either way, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss! House of Torment is open on select dates from September 21st to November 3rd, but be sure to buy your tickets in advance because this event is known to sell out quickly.
join in the festivities of oktoberfest
From AustOberfest in Austin to the Walburg Biergarten to Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg, there is no shortage of ways to commemorate German heritage this fall. Celebrate with a stein of beer and a juicy bratwurst at one of these popular Oktoberfest events, while listening to some traditional German music and enjoying good company!
listen to some tunes at acl
The Austin City Limits Music Festival is held annually in Zilker Park. With the choice of two different weekends (October 5th-7th or October 12th-14th), this event has grown immensely over the years, bringing people from all over the world to see some of the most famous musicians and tons of local Austin bands. Bring sunscreen and don’t forget to hydrate – and you’re sure to have the time of your life at this three-day festival!
enjoy the weather and go camping
Bask in the wonderful weather that fall brings with an overnight adventure at one of the many state parks and campgrounds in and around Austin. With tons of great options to choose from, you can pick exactly what you want in a campsite. Whether it’s near or far, has a watering hole or hiking, there’s a perfect spot for everyone!
run the annual turkey trot
The Turkey Trot run, sponsored by Thundercloud Subs, is known for being the largest 5 mile run in Texas! What makes this event even more unique, is that it’s held every year on Thanksgiving morning with nearly 20,000 people participating each year. So put on your best running shoes, and hit the roads of downtown Austin to preemptively run off all that turkey and gravy you’re sure to eat later!
We hope you have a wonderful time exploring all of these Fall events in Austin this year. Happy Fall!
