At ABC, we have a wide selection of window treatments to choose from– no two are exactly alike, so you’re sure to find something that matches both your budget and your taste! One important consideration, however, is maintenance. Each window covering will need to be cleaned in a different way to ensure that you’re getting the most out of the product. Here are some tips on how to clean your windows depending on their type:
Blinds
Wood/Faux Wood
- Dust both sides of slats with soft cloth or chemically-treated dust cloth
- For stubborn dirt, dampen a soft cloth (do NOT saturate!), wipe, and open slats to air dry
Aluminum/Vinyl
- Gently vacuum with duster attachment
- For stubborn dirt, treat the way you would wood blinds
Shades
Cellular/Honeycomb
- Gently vacuum with duster attachment
- Stubborn stains can be spot cleaned with a sponge and mild dish detergent– just make sure not to rub the fabric!
Roman
- Gently vacuum with duster attachment or use handheld vacuum with brush attachment
- Spot clean with soft cloth and mild dish detergent– do not saturate the fabric!
Sheer
- Gently vacuum with brush attachment on lowest possible setting
Roller (Vinyl)
- Wipe down with sponge and mild detergent and extend fully to air dry
- Remove shades and cover with warm water mixed with a few pumps of mild dish soap in bathtub; gently clean with brush and allow to air dry fully before rehanging
Panel Track
- Vacuum with dust brush attachment
Drapes
Experts disagree on the best method for cleaning fabric drapes and curtains. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the fabric is safe to be either machine-washed or dry cleaned, but in general, regular vacuuming and spot cleaning should suffice to keep your fabric coverings in good condition.
