The holiday season is here and all of our favorite Austin neighborhoods have something special to add to the festivities. Here are a few outdoor activities that will surely evoke your holiday spirit:
lakeway trail of lights, santa & snow days
If you live in the Texas Hill Country, you can enjoy the twinkle of your own Trail of Lights at the Lakeway Activity Center. They do an annual trail with thousands of lights. It’s not as big as the trail at Zilker Park, but it’s still a lot of fun to stroll around the path with your family and friends.
You can enjoy visits with Santa and Snow Days at Hill Country Galleria throughout the month of December. Santa flies in from the North Pole frequently and finds his comfy spot to greet the young and the young of heart by the big Christmas Tree near the Bee Cave Public Library. Snow Days are also on the calendar where kiddos can play in artificial snow.
trail of lights & zilker tree
For most Austinites, it’s not truly the holiday season until you’ve spun under the Zilker Tree, the most dizzying fun you can have! More than 2 million lights sparkle at Zilker Park until December 22 – Trail of Lights and the Zilker Tree. The trail features 50 lighted displays and the trees are strewn with colorful lights. The Zilker Tree stands 155 feet tall with over 3k lights on it!
This year for the first time, there will be a classic carousel in Zilker Village along with the traditional attractions such as the Ferris wheel, Santa’s Workshop, the Yule Log and the North Pole.

cedar park historic tree
Another huge tree lights up for the holiday season in Cedar Park – the historic Heritage Oak. This massive tree boasts a trunk diameter more than 50 inches and a circumference over 13 feet. Every year it is decorated with over 65k lights! This historic tree was almost lost, but thanks to the Cedar Park Heritage Society, they kept it by building a park around it.
From all of us at ABC Blind & Drapery, we wish you and yours a happy holiday season!
